The Amboseli National Park, A Natural Beauty

One of the most beautiful nature reserves in Kenya is the Amboseli National Park. Lying on a surface of approximately 390 square kilometers, the park is located in the Kajiado District and it is one of the largest in the world. The park covers much of the border between Kenya and Tanzania. It is a real sensation for the tourists, because the highest African peak, Kilimanjaro, is here, at 5985 meters, which in fact, is already on the other side of the border with Tanzania.

The park got its name from the lake with the same name, which went dry in the meantime. In this park, the king of the beasts is neither the lion, the leopard, the cheetah, but the elephant. Apart from elephants, dozens of mammals and hundreds of birds live in the park: pelicans, flamingos, ostriches and vultures. The park was founded in 1974 and it is worth seeing especially at dawn or at sunset. In the morning, you can see the contours of the Kilimanjaro peak, in the afternoon it is covered in clouds, and in the evening it is enveloped into a gorgeous purple light.

Those who come to this place are mostly from the Masai tribes, although many people from the entire African continent and from Europe come camping here for a few weeks or months of relaxation. The locals outside Amboseli visit the park because they can earn big money from the tourists and especially from the trips organized in the places where wild animals live. The Amboseli National Park is one of the favorite destinations for the Europeans who want to relax and have a holiday in nature. However, these are people who know all kind of details about the lifestyle of the animals on the old African continent.

Throughout the park, Thompson discovered eight swamps which were shelters for different species of animals and insects unique in the world. The Amboseli Park has some impressive waterfalls in the forests that lie on its surface, which can be reached preferably with a guide's help. The National Park entrance fee is 40 Euros per person. If you get there in an organized group, the cost includes a specialized guide, available throughout the whole holiday.
