The Lowchen race like any other Bichon dog group has Mediterranean origins. There have been found references on this dog since the 15th century. It is a distinct breed for more than four hundred years. The name comes from the lion haircut with similar characteristics. He had a great reputation, especially in Belgium.
The Lowchen is a small dog, with a square look. The head is in proportion to the body, skull equal in length to muzzle, but quite wide with a big black nose. The eyes are round, large and dark. Ears are medium length, left near the head and well covered with fur. The tail is medium in length and those from the top have a tuft of long hair as the plume. The coat consists of very long hair, slightly wavy, dense and soft. They can have different colors, one color or stained. The most common colors are white, black and cream. It has a height of 20 to 35 centimeters and a weight of 4 to 8 kilograms.
A Lowchen is an intelligent dog, lively, cheerful, playful, sensitive, sociable and friendly. He is obedient and devoted to his master, playful and affectionate with children and gets along well with other dogs and other animals. Above this he is alert to strangers. The coat should be brushed and combed regularly to not break and to remove dead pieces of hair because it does not shed. These dogs are trimmed, yet this is whether or not to be present at dog shows. The traditional haircut is the back of the dog breed, like the hind legs and tail part of leaving is just a buffer to the ankles and top of the tail.
The Lowchen is a dog that feels well in an apartment next to a loving family. His activity is low, but they refuse to be lazy and like longer walks. Training must be present even though it is an obedient race needs. Also training will be easy as this dog is intelligent, obedient and easily learns what is required.
