This race is named property because of the Duke of Newcastle Clumber Park which is believed to have been increased for the first time in England, and was brought from France by the French Revolution around the Duke de Noailles. Among the ancestors of the breed could be Alpine Spaniel and the Basset Hound. In the nineteenth century the Clumber Spaniel became very popular among the English nobility and today it is quite rare.
In description the Clumber Spaniel is a medium sized dog, more long than tall, with rather short legs, massive and hard. It has a large head, square, short muzzle with a big nose with different shades of brown, pink or purple. The eyes are large, round, amber. The ears are large, wide, long (like a vine leaf) hanging near the head and covered well with hair. The tail is cut short. The coat is medium in length, thick, straight, silky with fringes on the ears, neck, abdomen and legs. It is white with yellow or has orange spots.
