Invertebral discsID are fiber-cartilaginous structures, placed between two adjacent vertebrae. They are essential for the spine movement and act as a ligament, connecting one segment to the next. They have especially a mechanical function. Their structure has the shape of a ring, with an exterior, resistant circle, surrounding the pulp the nucleus. This gelatinous mass distributes the pressure, absorbs the shocks and keeps the normal distance between vertebral bone elements. There are 24 structures of this kind, called after the separated vertebrae at the lumbar level, the ring that separates the third vertebrae of the forth is called L3-4 disc.
