The concept of religious fundamentalism is aimed at enforcing strict compliance with the original theological laws of the religions one belongs to. The term has been first used by believers who formed the North American Protestant Community in the first half of the 20th century. The concept originated in the current fundamentalist-modernist controversies of that time. In religion, this term is strictly related to the attachement of people to certain laws and old believes.

Current fundamentalism was born in United States in the late 19th century. Those who come up with the first ideas about this concept were conservative presbyterian theologians from Princeton Thelogical Seminary. It spread pretty quickly among Baptists and other religious creeds and it intended to reaffirm certasin religious ideas against the threat of criticism and liberal theology. The roots of fundamentalism have been established at the Bible Conference which took place in Niagara, between 1878-1897, during which the basic dogmas of Christianity have been defined. The collection of those 12 books published by Milton and Lyman Stewart brothers brought this concept on the spotlight and made it known. The fundamental beliefs of fundamentaslism were formulated during the United Presbyterian Church Assembly:
