Coated Retriever, A Very Energetic Dog

The Curly-Coated Retriever is a more prevalent race in England, Australia and New Zealand and is the result of a cross breed between Newfoundland, Irish Water Spaniel, Poodle and old-type English Water Spaniel which today is extinct.

The Curly-Coated Retriever is a medium to large sized dog, well built, strong and longer than tall. It has a long skull, quite large, equal in length with a skull tip that is trapezoidal and has a black nose. The eyes are rather large, brown or black. Ears are relatively small, covered with curly hair and sharp. The tail is conical, medium in length, curly hair covered, held high up on the back. The coat is waterproof, created, except the face and legs and can have a color of black or dark red to brown. He has a height of 58 to 68 centimeters and a weight of 29 to 38 kilograms.

The Curly-Coated Retriever is an intelligent dog, energetic, happy and noisy. It is obedient and devoted to the master, loving and patient with children if not too bothered and quite wary of strangers. Generally he gets along well with other dogs and other animals in the household. Regarding the caring of the Curly-Coated Retriever, the coat will be brushed during shedding to remove dead and loose hair but not very hard in order to not damage the texture coat. Eventually, after brushing, hair will be wet with a sponge to regain shine. If it grows too long it can be trimmed slightly towards short.

The Curly-Coated Retriever is a dog that is weather resistant, with a fairly high level of activity which likes to move, to be occupied, otherwise he can become disobedient. He likes dog sports, especially field running and swimming. It feels best in a fenced yard where he can move freely. He needs socialization and training. Training needs to be firm, consistent, varied without being harsh or severe and you will get good results quite quickly because he is an intelligent dog that quickly understands and wants to please his master. It has an independent side and males are dominant than females. The Curly-Coated Retriever is a good hunting dog in any field and a good guard dog and a pleasant companion.
